There are some exciting e-democracy projects that may qualify under a "best practice" that are happening around the world but may be missed due to a language barrier. I would hate to think that the project is missing out due to the lovely mechanics of a google translation.


Yamoto City, Japan. They have initated a system where citizen input goes directly to the appropiate project officers and there is a follow up procedure to ensure accessibility and responses.

city of Bologna, Italy. They directly encourage the online dialogue between citizens, organizations and municipal departments.

Too broad as rationale

Alle van Meeteren 23:52, 6 Jan 2005 (PST) The fact that local governments can achieve the broadest range of consultation and neighbourhood input by implementing strategies that incorporate edemocracy principles and the fact that e-survey's and e-petitions assist in setting agenda items not previously included, are not reasons to use Democracy Portals as a special tool. It is a reason to make use of internet as a whole for democracy, but that is the starting point of our whole investigation.

Local

Hi Peter,

In the short description is the word local. I agree that this is the level where it generally operates. But, I'm just wondering if this should be expanded because it can also function at regional, state and federal levels.
