Talk:Community Forums and News in Subang Jaya

From DoWire Wiki

This is a fascinating case study with some really interesting outcomes - I'd be interested in keeping up with the fuller research output - is this published yet and if so could you add a reference? Thanks User:CatherineHowe

Dear Catherine

Many thanks for your feedback. No publications as yet. I'm currently (February 2005) in the process of writing a book on my research in Subang Jaya provisionally entitled 'Upgrading Community'. I've sent a proposal to Routledge and I'm waiting for a reply. I am hoping to have a manuscript ready by the end of September 2005, so publication will be sometime in 2006. Before then I will probably publish some materials in academic journals. If you wish I can keep you (and any other readers of this note) informed as my writing up progresses. I would certainly appreciate comments on drafts if anyone can spare the time!

Thoughts on Links and Supporting Documents

Dr John Postill-

I appreciated your work on the Community Forums and News in Subang Jaya. A strong piece of evidence supported by user statistics, examples of citizen involvement and impact on local government.

I dont know if you submitted background info to Steve in a separate email but I am wondering if it would be helpful to include links or docs related to:

Local Agenda 21 http://www.un.org/esa/sustdev/documents/agenda21/english/agenda21toc.htm

Federal government’s long-term vision of a fully developed, knowledge-based Malaysia by 2020 http://unpan1.un.org/intradoc/groups/public/documents/apcity/unpan002712.pdf

municipal council’s introduction in 2001 of an innovative network of residents’ committees (JKP)

Subang Jaya award-winning ‘model township’

press releases and interviews

I dont know given the political climate if much of the information is readily available or the founders would have alot for public viewership?

Regards,

Peter
