the UK

This site contains several examples of Elected Official Videos from around the UK.

Croydon Borough Council provides live and archived webcasts of council proceedings. The webcasts provide features including speaker profiles, index points and a feedback facility. The "New Addington and Fieldway Neighbourhood Partnership" meeting on 9th Feb was webcast from a community hall using a mobile system.

The Devon County Council provides live and archived webcasts. They have produced a video case study about them.

The Lewisham approach is to give the local community a voice by bringing low cost, mobile, wireless webcasting to the community groups themselves. Community groups have been trained to use the "streaming suitcases" so that they can book out the equipment and bring their message to a wider audience. So far, Lewisham community groups have webcast "Local Children question the Mayor", "International Womens Day" and "Lewisham Managers conference" webcasts.

The Newcastle City Council's Media Library provides live webcasts of key events and archived video of council meetings and a variety of other events.

The Sheffield City Council recently provided its first webcast.

The Shropshire County Council provides live and archived webcasts. The "Shropshire County Council Pension Fund Annual Meeting" webcast is an example of a meeting with slides embedded and one that explicitly addresses the fact that only the speakers and not the public are filmed.

The South Shropshire council also provides webcasts. The "question time" debate from November 2004 included transcription and a Web forum and survey.

The Waverley Borough Council webcasts a wide range of meetings and community events. The "Special Council - Godalming Key Site Application" meeting webcast includes plans as slides to assist the viewer.

West Lancashire District Council provides webcasts of its annual meeting as an assembly. It also provides a free DVD for people who don't want to download the video clips.

The Public-i Demonstration Site hosts a number of UK Local Body Webcasts powered by the Public-i v5.0 webcast system.

Scottish parliament – webcasts and archive all the parliament's public business including committee sessions. Includes community participation such as, A New Voice in the Land, the “First 1000 days of the Scottish Parliament, seen through the eyes of eight ordinary Scots.”


Waverley, Newcastle and Hounslow all offer a wide range of webcast meetings.

the US

The Michigan Supreme Court webcast its training seminars live and then archives them for easy access. Michigan Supreme Court online library of archived webcasts.

Granicus' Clients area shows many cities and counties in the US who are currently using webcasting to provide public access to meetings and more.

The City of Seattle's Office of Electronic Communications provides several live streaming and on-demand video channels (as well as a TV channel). Webcasting is just one of Seattle's electronic democracy initiatives.

Minnesota House of Representative is among a number of state legislatures that webcast.

Rory Perry’s Blog: Court Webcasting includes periodic commentary on US supreme court webcasts and links to 11 states that provide webcasts of their supreme court.
