However, in today's fast-paced world, democracy risks becoming an exclusive vestige for the few time rich left in society. Democaster modernises local public meetings and events by making available at any time from anywhere. Through low-cost and highly flexible audio webcasting, democratic benefits at the smallest scale can be realised.

With a pragmatic focus on audio with optional webcam images based on open source solutions, Democaster changes the economics of community and government webcasting. With Democaster a small meeting, like a Parish Council, can double participation from 10 to 20 people. A community group hosting a speaker and vibrant discussion drew 20 people to the event, 5 live listeners, but 100 citizens who listened over the next six months.
